|
Within these pages you will share my journey since my open RNY gastric bypass surgery in October 1998. Here you will find my journal of the past seven years, FAQ's, Links, Before & After Pix, info on Reconstructive Surgery anything else I could think of! Hope you find my corner of the web interesting and that you get a little something out of your time here.
If you are feeling a
little blue, or down
10/25/98 The day before my surgery . My highest weight of 500 pounds. That's a quarter of a ton! I could barely walk or breathe. I was probably just a few weeks from life in a wheelchair and actually looking forward to it. I had to stop outside my house to take a rest just to think about trying to get into my car. Walking much more than 20 feet caused wheezing and incredible back and knee pain. I had sleep apnea and was suffering from depression. (Who knew?!) There's a smile on my face in this picture, but I'm sure nowhere near happy. Now however, sure is a different story! I'm living a new life and shouting about it from the rooftops :)
October 26, 2002 Taa Daa!! From 500 pounds to 158. My BMI is now merely "overweight" according to the calculator. Still better than off the charts with a BMI of 87 and super morbidly obese. I've worked hard to get to 150 anything. Don't know if I'll keep it but I'm gonna try. I know that a 5 lbs swing is normal for me and I'm ok with that. Normal people's weight changes on a daily basis. As long as it doesn't get out of control I'm ok with it. And did I mention that I'm now wearing size 8 Gloria Vanderbilt jeans? Who know? Maybe I'll get myself into 6's!I thank God for the gift of health and my tool that He has given me and the opportunity to share my story with others. This is my way to Pay it Forward. I hope you find some useful information. If anything makes you stop and think, or smile...please drop me a note and let me know. Or if you like, just sign my guestbook. December 28, 2003 Needless to say I never got my five year pictures up. But I am happy to tell you that I am finally below 150! Yup, I had my moment with an old fashioned doctors scale. You know the type, the one with the sliding weights? The nurse had me weigh in, I wasn't paying any attention then I saw it...I was 100 plus 49. I stood and stared, my jaw dropped. She said I could get off the scale. I smiled and told her, "you have no idea just how big this moment is!" 100 + 49 OMG! Update July 2005 Not as small these days as I once was. Got to 149 for about 5 minutes and now have been battling regain. It's still a fight, every waking moment. I just keep telling myself (and those who know and love me tell me over and over the same thing) I AM NOT A FAILURE! My face is fuller, my arms are bigger, someone stole my hipbones, but I am STILL a success!!
